Daddy's Daughters
Breaking Chains, Building Dreams
Overview:
Founded by Kandice James in 2023, Sunflower Health LLC is a community-focused behavioral health organization dedicated to providing evidence-based interventions for teen girls impacted by substance use disorder and addiction of their parent or caregiver.
Founder’s Background:
Kandice James' deep commitment to her work is rooted in her personal experiences. Raised by a father who struggled with substance use disorder and alcoholism, Kandice understands the profound impact such issues can have on families. Her professional journey includes over a decade of service as a 911 operator and police dispatcher in Maricopa County, Arizona. Kandice also completed ministerial training and served as a volunteer minister in her local church. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand Canyon University, aiming to expand Sunflower Health’s services to include clinical mental health counseling.
Programs and Services:
Sunflower Health provides behavioral coaching for couples and women, focusing on evidence-based interventions. Kandice is also launching a specialized program for teen girls aged 13-19 who have an absentee parent due to substance use disorder and addiction. This program addresses the unique needs of these vulnerable teens, offering them support and strategies for resilience and personal growth.
Impact of Substance Use Disorder on Children:
Children raised by parents with substance use disorders face significant risks, including higher rates of emotional, behavioral, and academic problems. Statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) indicate that these children are more likely to develop substance use disorders themselves, suffer from mental health issues, and experience difficulties in social and educational settings. Early intervention and prevention programs are essential in mitigating these risks and supporting the healthy development of affected children.
Challenges and Future Plans:
Currently, Sunflower Health is in its infancy, less than a year old, and faces the challenge of generating revenue to fully launch its programs. Kandice's immediate goal is to secure a physical location to provide in-person services to her clients and community. Looking ahead, she envisions expanding Sunflower Health into a local integrated clinic that combines mental health services with medical services, offering a comprehensive approach to community health.
Conclusion:
Sunflower Health LLC embodies Kandice James' resilience and dedication to community service. By leveraging her personal and professional experiences, Kandice has created a supportive environment for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. Through continued education and expansion of services, Kandice aims to make a lasting impact on her community, fostering hope and healing for those in need.
